The unglamorous data work that determines AI outcomes

Definitions, ownership and reconciliation. The three things nobody wants to fund, and the three that decide whether the programme works.

Daniel Krishnan

Director of AI Systems

Definitions come first

If two departments define a qualified lead differently, every downstream model, dashboard and automation inherits the disagreement. Definition work is a half-day workshop that saves months.

Ownership makes it durable

Every important field needs an owner responsible for its accuracy. Unowned data degrades predictably, and the degradation is invisible until a decision is made on it.

Reconciliation builds trust

Run a monthly reconciliation between the growth reporting layer and finance. Differences are expected; unexplained differences are the problem. Once the reconciliation is routine, executive trust follows quickly.

Sequencing against delivery pressure

This work does not need to complete before value delivery begins. It needs to run alongside it, with the first automation deliberately chosen in an area where the data is already sound.
